A Festive Sky for July 14, 2024


On July 14, 2024, Chartres witnessed a special event: French Army helicopters took off from Chartres – Champhol airfield to participate in the flypast over Paris. That year, the French Army's light aviation (ALAT) celebrated its 70th anniversary, adding a symbolic dimension to this national holiday.

A Historic Flight from Chartres


On July 10, 2024, seven helicopters from the 5th Combat Helicopter Regiment (RHC), based in Pau, departed Chartres – Champhol airfield for their final rehearsals before the big day. These aircraft included the NH90 Caiman, the Tiger, and the Cougar, each playing a specific role in the flypast planned over Paris on July 14th.
These rehearsals offered the residents of Chartres a rare opportunity to observe these powerful military aircraft up close. The helicopters took off in formation, creating an impressive spectacle in the Chartres sky. The roar of the engines and the aerial ballet captivated the spectators, strengthening the bond between the local population and the armed forces.
These helicopters were photographed in Chartres before and after their participation in the flypast, offering enthusiasts a rare opportunity to admire these aircraft up close.

Among the helicopters present in Chartres, several iconic ALAT models were highlighted:



Cougar AS532 : A heavy transport aircraft, essential for rapid deployment missions, it also took part in rehearsals from Chartres.

NH90 Caïman : Versatile and modern, this tactical transport helicopter was decorated for the occasion, displaying motifs commemorating the 70th anniversary of ALAT.

Fennec AS555 : Light and fast, he essential for rapid deployment missions, it also took part in rehearsals from Chartres.

Tigre : A high-precision attack helicopter, it was seen in formation with other aircraft, ready to demonstrate its capabilities during the parade.

The Flypast over Paris


On July 14, 2024, the flypast was organized in two phases. :

First phase: 22 helicopters and 6 light aircraft flew over the capital, showcasing the diversity of French air capabilities.

Second phase: 37 aircraft took part in the parade, illustrating the country's air power.

The parade was marked by tributes to the year's major events, such as the 80th anniversary of the Liberation and the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games.
