Lafayette tribute

On April 20, 2016, a remarkable aerial tribute took place over Marnes-la-Coquette, France, commemorating the centenary of the Lafayette Escadrille—a unit of American volunteer pilots who served with the French Air Service during World War I. This ceremony honored the 68 members of the Escadrille and the broader Lafayette Flying Corps, who are interred at the Lafayette Escadrille Memorial.

Highlights of the 2016 Aerial Tribute

Mirage 2000N & Rafale B: Three Mirage 2000N aircraft from the French Air Force's Escadron de chasse 2/4 "La Fayette" and a Rafale B from Escadron de chasse 1/91 "Gascogne" participated in the flyover.


F-22 Raptors: A formation of four F-22 Raptor fighters from the U.S. Air Force's 94th Fighter Squadron, based at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia, performed a flyover.
B-52 Stratofortress: A Boeing B-52H Stratofortress from the 5th Bomb Wing at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota conducted a flyover, marking a rare appearance of this aircraft over Paris.
